Hallym to lead future medicine as ‘2021 Data-centered Hospital’

Hallym University Sacred Heart Hospital has been selected as a participant of the ‘Project to Support Medical Data-centered Hospital’ by the Ministry of Health and Welfare on March 10, 2021.


The project is designed to form a medical data ecosystem by opening, linking, and integrating medical data accumulated separately in each hospital. If the project is successfully finished, it is expected that there will be various research collaborations among hospitals, universities, research centers, and the medical industry to help improve the medical quality and help the development of life science.


Among the criteria of the evaluation, the quantity of medical data, the level of hospital, the capabilities of data management and utilization, the cumulative number of patients, plans for securing medical data on specific diseases are included.


Hallym hospital will carry out the project as the main organizer until December this year with 1.5 billion KRW of government grant, and lead the hospital consortium which consists of two tertiary hospitals (Gangreung Asan Hospital, University of Ulsan Hospital), three general hospitals (Kyunghee University Gangdong Hospital, Gangwon National University Hospital, Hallym University Chuncheon Sacred Heart Hospital), and two specialized hospitals (Sejong Hospital, Hangil Ophthalmology hospital).


The specific target of the project includes 'Establishing a safe environment for healthcare data utilization,' 'Setting up the data spread standards,' 'Developing new drugs using AI,' 'Specializing in disease-specific medical data,' 'Defining datasets for utilization' and 'Promoting researches on new medical technologies.'


Hallym hospital will conduct data production, data management & information security, data quality management, and data utilization & opening to public in its own medical big data portal or cloud-based platform. In particular, it will focus on building datasets by classifying undefined data by cancer, cardiovascular disease, respiratory disease, and other specific diseases.
