Hallym Burn Foundation and Hallym University Hangang Sacred Heart Hospital held '2018 Hallym Burn International Conference' at Glad Hotel Yeouido on June 5, 2018. The conference was the first of its kind for burn survivors in Korea.
Over 90 burn survivors and their family joined the conference and celebrated the 10th anniversary of the establishment of Hallym Burn Foundation. The participants shared their experiences and discussed issues in the current treatment of burn injuries as well as the ways of returning to the local community.
The conference began with a welcome speech by Chairman Hyun-sook Yoon of the Hallym Burn Foundation, followed by a congratulatory remark and a keynote speech delivered by Executive Director Amy Acton of the Phoenix Society for Burn Survivors.
The first session covered 'Social Reintegration: Giving Burn Survivors and Families the “TOOLS” to re-engage in their communities', 'Research on the Needs of Adolescents and Young Adults Burn Survivors', and 'Social rehabilitation experience of burn survivors and support plan.'
In the second session, speakers presented on 'Youth resembling flowers' and 'Employment experience of burn survivors in Taiwan.'
After the presentation, Prof. Kyung Mi Kim of Social Welfare department at Soongsil University hosted a talk concert on 'Changes in social awareness of burn injuries.'
"I hope the conference will help not only understanding the difficulties that burn survivors experience, but also building the impetus for changes in social awareness of burn injuries," Chairman Hyun-sook Yoon said. "We at the Hallym Burn Foundation will continue to help the burn survivors recover and get back to their daily life," she added.
The Hallym Burn Foundation has been carrying out business for burn treatment and prevention such as supporting medical expenses and inviting surgery for low-income burned people in Korea and overseas over the past decade.
