Hallym University Hangang Sacred Heart Hospital held a ceremony on May 16, 2017, for its reopening as a newly expanded general hospital and an opening of Cardiocerebrovascular Center.
The whole hospital was remodeled from the first basement to the 8th floor. The number of operation rooms has more than doubled from 3 to 8. Single-bed rooms for sound isolation and quarantine were also installed. The hospital, which used to be a burn specialty hospital with 215 patient beds, has transformed into a general hospital with 25 medical departments and 400 patient beds within 4 years since the decision to remodel the hospital was made in 2013.
The hospital has the following clinical departments: Burn Surgery, Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery, Rehabilitation Medicine, Cardiology, Gastroenterology & Hepatology, Pulmonary, Allergy & Critical Care Medicine, Endocrinology & Metabolism, Nephrology, Infectious Diseases, Neurology, Neurosurgery, Orthopedic Surgery, Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine, Psychiatry, Otorhinolaryngology/Head & Neck Surgery, General Surgery, Thorasic Surgery, Obstetrics & Gynecology, Ophthalmology, Urology, Dermatology, Anesthesiology & Pain Medicine, Radiology, Laboratory Medicine, and Emergency Medicine. A total of 49 medical specialists provide care and treatment services.
To help prevent infection and shorten treatment time, different type of medical services are offered in two buildings. The burn patients can receive the treatment at the Burn Center in the new building, and other patients can be treated in the main building. In addition, the Cardiocerebrovascular Center was newly established, and cutting edge medical equipment including CT, MRI and digital angiography were installed as well.
At the Emergency Medical Center, four specialists in emergency medicine, an internist and a burn surgeon stay for 365 days. The cooperation with regional 119 Fire and Rescue Services lets the medical staffs provide timely treatment and prevent them from missing the golden time.
Director Wook Chun of the hospital said, "The number of patients with heart problems, cerebrovascular diseases and chronic adult diseases are growing due to an aging population, and the purpose of the expansion of hospital was to give proper treatment to them. By recruiting medical specialists, introducing the latest medical equipments and operating them efficiently, we will put our utmost efforts to lead the field of burn care and cardiocerebrovascular disease treatment."
