Dr. Soo Joong Choi of Orthopedic Surgery at Hallym University Sacred Heart Hospital has been named as the new President of the Korean Society for Surgery of the Hand (KSSH) at the annual general meeting in November last year. His term of office is one year, which started in January, 2017. Since its establishment in 1981, KSSH has been putting its utmost efforts into developing the field of hand surgery through annual academic conferences in Spring and Autumn, as well as workshops and an annual general meeting each year. KSSH will hold a joint symposium with the Korean Society for Microsurgery on March this year.
“When it comes to performing complicated and delicate surgical operation, the role of hand surgeons is crucial. I’m planning to enhance the professional status of hand surgery to a higher level and promote various activities to bring the members together,” said Dr. Choi. “The costs of hand surgery are currently underestimated, and it needs to be changed. I will try to get this issue resolved,” he added.
Dr. Choi graduated from Seoul National University College of Medicine, had surgical training at the University Hand Center of Stony Brook Orthopaedic Associates at State University of New York, and received the prize for the best research paper from the Korean Society for Microsurgery(KSM). He served as the President of KSM, and currently is working as a board member of the Korean Orthopaedic Association (KOA) and the next chairman of Gyeonggi Branch of KOA.
