The millionth international patient finds hope at Hangang

No.4461 Date2015-05-01 Hit 29050

Hallym University Hangang Sacred Heart Hospital and Hallym Burn Foundation invited a Mongolian burn patient, Mr. Hatangbatar, to Korea for medical treatment. He could not afford to receive proper treatment in Mongolia because of his financial hardship and the level of local medical services.

Mr.Hatangbatar used to be a driver in Mongolia. He got burned on his face, ears, shoulders and neck in January by a sudden car explosion when he started his car. He went through four times of skin graft, but he could not be fully recovered in his country. Moreover, as time passed, the hypertrophic cicatrix on his neck and shoulders constrained him from turning his head and he could not hear well due to his folded ears. At the burn center in Hangang hospital, Mr.Hatangbatar went through the graft surgery twice on his neck and his ears. Currently, he is showing a rapid recovery after a wound dressing.

The Korea Health Industry Development Institute(KHIDI) selected him as the ‘Millionth International Patient for medical treatment to Korea’ and granted an exemption of airfare aside from accommodation fees. He also attended the ‘Bio & Medical Korea 2015’ at COEX on April 9. As a surprise event, KHIDI invited his wife and two sons from Mongolia.

An official of the hospital said, “We did plastic and reconstructive surgery to help him move his neck more smoothly. We hope he and his family restore their confidence and begin a new life in his country.”
