Dr. Ho Sik Hwang restored a Mongolian woman’s sight

No.4457 Date2015-04-01 Hit 28927

A 39-year old blind Mongolian woman, Ms. Sarantsetseg recovered her sight through a corneal graft surgery operated by Dr. Ho Sik Hwang and his team at Hallym University Chuncheon Sacred Heart Hospital in March.

The hospital’s ophthalmology department members first met Ms. Sarantsetseg through the medical missionary practices in Mongolia. She used to work as a chef at her home country, but 15 years ago, her cornea opacity was getting worse, causing a gradual loss of her sight and as a result, she had to quit her job. Since then, she barely made ends meet with his husband and two sons.

The hospital asked for help to the Korea Association for Life Sharing, an organ transplant organization designated by the Ministry of Health and Welfare and the Kipun Methodist Church also supported the surgery.

Ms. Sarantsetseg said, “I could not even walk my children to school and my life was hopeless. Now that I can see the beautiful world, I am so thankful to Hallym for restoring my sight.” She added with excitement, “I hope to invite everyone who helped me to my house in Mongolia and cook food for them.”
