USFK (United States Forces Korea) officials based in Osan, TRICARE, and International SOS visited Hallym University Dongtan Sacred Heart Hospital on August 14, 2013.
The visit was to have a working-level discussion for mapping out a comprehensive international referral system tailored to USFK soldiers. The USFK delegation’s visit follows just five months after the hospital signed a mutual cooperation protocol with International SOS in March.
The meeting was attended by 20 Hallym members including Dr. Ho Guen Chang, director of Hallym University Dongtan Sacred Heart Hospital and Heesung Yoon, director of management strategy. A group of 13 officials from the U.S. side attended the meeting and some of key participants include chief operating officer of TRICARE, TRICARE Area Office-Pacific executive director and USFK Osan Air Base officials.
Dr. Chang commenced the meeting with a welcome speech. Dr. Jae-Hyuk Shin, associate professor of orthopedic surgery, briefly reported the progress of TRICARE medical treatment agreement.
The group, which toured the main facilities of the hospital including emergency department, VIP wards, operating room, intensive care units and heliport, praised the hospital’s state-of-the art hospital equipments and management system.
Hallym University Dongtan Sacred Heart Hospital subsequently opened the International Healthcare Center in October to better serve U.S. service members and international patients. More U.S. service members and their families are expected to make the best use of the hospital’s International Healthcare Center and enjoy the highest quality of medical care.
