Hallym University Medical Center (HUMC) has sent a group of medical specialists to Paraguay to successfully wrap up the Korea International Cooperation Agency’s project of establishing a general hospital in San Pedro on March 15, 2013.
The group trained local healthcare workers and provided consultations on the hospital management. The project, which is a part of the KOICA’s international aid projects, aims to build the general hospital in the next five years beginning 2009 to improve healthcare infrastructure in Paraguay.
The group led by Dr. Hyoun Chan Cho, professor of laboratory medicine at Hallym University College of Medicine, inspected the hospital and lectured under the theme of “Korean healthcare system and hospital management.”
During the lecture, Dr. Cho and other staff shared HUMC’s management experience ranging from its management principle, manual, patient safety and to myriad of medicine examination technology. Lecturers have drawn a positive response from the audience.
Since HUMC has been designated as Project Management Consultant by KOICA in 2007, it has been actively initiating international cooperation projects. It has invited key executives at a General Hospital in San Pedro including its new president to Korea for a two-week training course in 2011. HUMC was also designated as a PMC for improving maternal and child healthcare services in Asuncion. For this program, it trained Paraguayan Health Ministry officials and some medical experts.
