Hallym University Medical Center (HUMC) held the 5th Hallym-Uppsala International Symposium at the Hanmaeum Hall of Hallym University Sacred Heart Hospital on September 19, 2012. The meeting focused on "Advances in Imaging: From Basic to Clinical Practice.”
Since 2008, HUMC and Uppsala University have collaborated on a series of annual international symposiums to address a wide range of medical issues including neurodegenerative diseases, diabetes mellitus, head and neck cancer, gastroenterologic diseases, colorectal cancer, tissue engineering, regenerative medicine, and biomarkers.
The symposium consisted of four sessions: in session one, participants discussed abdominal imaging; session two was concerned with breast imaging; session three dealt with molecular imaging; and in the last session, they talked about musculoskeletal imaging.

At the opening ceremony, Dr. Hae-Ran Lee, President of HUMC, noted, “Today, we are gathered here again to further continue our talks under the theme of “Advances in Imaging. The selection of topic is quite timely as new imaging technologies will provide a greater understanding of the diseases and help the early diagnosis and the quest for treatment. Also, I am really proud of our cooperative relationship with the world’s greatest universities like Uppsala University. Seeking your continued encouragement, I would like to thank the Uppsala leaders including honorable President emeritus Anders Hallberg and Dean emeritus Kjell Oberg who have made a great contribution to our bilateral partnership.”
