Hallym, Oulu Hold 2nd Int’l Symposium

Hallym University Medical Center(HUMC) hosted the 2nd Hallym-Oulu International Symposium at Hallym University Sacred Heart Hospital on October 7, 2011.


Since Hallym reached an international affiliation agreement with the University of Oulu on academic exchanges and cooperation in September, 2008, the institutions have collaborated on annual international meetings.


Under the theme, ‘Molecular Epidemiology of Major Diseases in Korea and Finland,’ four medical experts from Oulu and five from Hallym were invited. About 150 participants from universities, hospitals and research centers attended the conference.


Presentations and discussions focused on four different topics: Birth Cohort & Childhood Asthma Epidemiology; Neurodegenerative & Psychiatric Illnesses; Vascular Diseases & Diabetes; and Bioinformatics


Among the dignitaries of University of Oulu at the symposium included Rector Lauri Lajunen, Professor Markku Savolainen of Internal Medicine, Professor Marjo-Riitta Jarvelin of Institute of Health Sciences, Professor Juha Veijola of Psychiatry and Professor Mika Ala-Korpela of Computational Medicine.
