No.2264 Date2009-11-20 Hit 32763

Hallym University Sacred Heart Hospital offered free medical services to community residents at the Songsan Welfare Center in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi-do, on October 30, 2009.

Hallym's medical aid team consisted of about 20 medical professionals including doctors, nurses and medical technicians from various departments such as orthopedic surgery, urology, dentistry, rehabilitation medicine, radiology, ECG lab, blood collecting, pharmacy and social work. They carried out basic medical exams such as a blood sugar test, a blood pressure test, a body fat test, ultrasonography, electrocardiography, chest X-Ray and a blood test.

Consultations on various health problems including arthritis, osteoporosis, dental caries, denture, implant, dental brace, prostatic hyperplasia, bladder cancer and prostatic cancer were available. About 100 citizens received free medical treatments on that day.

Designed to provide basic medical services to senior citizens enjoying poor medical benefits, 30 governmental officials from the Gyeonggi-do Office of the Korea Rural Community Corporation (KRC), and 20 Hallym members joined the program.

Since Hallym signed an MOU on medical services and public health with the KRC in April, 2009, they have been implementing the program to render free medical aid to those in farming and fishing communities who have difficulty getting medical services.

Dr. Byung-Chul Lee, hospital director, said, "We are committed to improving the health of our community. I also hope the whole society needs to pay more attention to helping as many poor people as possible."
