Dr. In-Bok Chang, Professor of Neurosurgery at Hallym University Sacred Heart Hospital, received a Leon-Wilts prize on May 22 at The 16th Spring Congress of the Korean Neurotraumatology Society(KNS). His paper on 'Analysis of Causes of Deaths of the Patients Who had Head Injuries with Multiple Traumas in Emergency Rooms' was selected as the best paper of the congress. The Leon-Wilts prize is adjudged to be the best among the papers appeared in the Journal of Korean Neurotraumtology Society(KNS) for the last two years.
Dr. Chang analyzed the deceased among the patients who had head injuries with multiple traumas in the emergency rooms of Hallym University Sacred Heart Hospital from January, 1999 to May, 2007.
He summarized his paper by stressing, "The primary cause of death is a hypovolemic shock rather than a head injury. What is important in an emergency room is to cooperate with other departments. It would be a way to reduce mortality by securing a prompt diagnosis, a surgical treatment, and the embolization with the angiography."
