No.2104 Date2009-05-08 Hit 36021

A 14-member Hallym medical delegation, headed by Dr. Dai-Won Yoon, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Ilsong Educational Foundation, visited Uppsala University to participate in the second Hallym-Uppsala International Symposium, which was held at Gronvall Lecture Hall in Uppsala University, Sweden, on May 7, 2009. Under the theme of 'Current Issues in Medicine and Surgery: From Bench to Bedside II,' the symposium covered a variety of issues form basic to clinical areas consisting of four sessions: recent clinical studies on diabetes mellitus; arthritis & rheumatology from bench to bedside; prevalent gastroenterologic & hepatologic diseases; novel therapeutic modalities in colorectal cancer. About 100 professors and students of Uppsala attended this meeting.

Among other Hallym delegates were Dr. Hae-Ran Lee, President of Hallym University Medical Center(HUMC), Dr. Yong-Sun Kim, Executive Vice President for Health and Biomedical Sciences, Dr. Geun-Young Lee, Director of Kangnam Sacred Heart Hospital, and ten professors of HUMC were invited to the symposium wherein they shared medical knowledge and clinical experiences with their Swedish counterparts.

At the opening, Dr. Hae-Ran Lee, HUMC President, said, "We are meeting here again to share more of our knowledge and experiences. I do believe that by sharing them together, we will be able to move forwards finding solutions to current medical issues. This symposium carries a particular meaning as it is being held here in Uppsala, Sweden. Thus, with the participation of many distinguished experts in Sweden, we look forward to having more active and rewarding discussions."

Hallym established a collaborative relationship with Uppsala University last year, and as a result, the first meeting took place in Seoul last October. Swedish medical professionals of Uppsala University including president Hallberg, professor Oberg, and four medical professors were invited as speakers to the gathering. This year's meeting was organized by Uppsala professors.
