Hallym University Sacred Heart Hospital sent a medical team to a match of the 6th Denso Cup Korea/Japan University football 2009, which took place at the Anyang Main Stadium on March 29. The match was co-hosted by University Football Confederations of Korea and Japan, and co-sponsored by the Dong-A Ilbo and the Asahi Shimbun.
Designated officially as a medical support institution of the game, Hallym organized a team composed of two physical therapists, a nurse, an administrative officer, and an ambulance driver to provide emergency medical treatment for players who are injured during the match.
In the match, Korea beat Japan 3-1 contrary to expectations of the many. This victory allows both Korea and Japan have three wins and three losses in this annual cup since 2004. Korea pressed Japan hard from the beginning of the match, scoring an opening goal just three minutes after the kick-off: Jae-woong Kim of Kyunghee University kicked a corner from the left, then Jun-jae Nam of Yonsei University headed it over his head, and Ki-dong Park of Soongsil University headed home the first goal from the right edge of the penalty area.
In the second minute of the second half, Park scored off a pass from Dae-sung Son of Gwandong University, and Seung-gi Lee of Ulsan University earned a winning goal in the 26th minute of the second half. Japan just scored a goal at an injury time. Park's two goals made him an MVP of the match.
