Globalization Vital for Survival: HR Lee

A new president of Hallym University Medical Center (HUMC) met 40 journalists at the Korea Press Center on August 28, 2008. The new leaders of Hallym officially start their business on September 1, this year.

Dr. Hae-Ran Lee, new president of HUMC, said "Hallym will concentrate on integrating five affiliate hospitals by way of taking advantage of their strengths. For its specialization, HUMC will operate some departments of the hospitals as specialized centers and make them as its whole brand of HUMC.

President Lee came up with three goals that HUMC should pursue in the days to come: globalization, the best specialties and social responsibilities.

The new president stressed, "It is evident that hospitals which fail to go global cannot survive in the future. Hallym will compete not only with major hospitals at home, but also with those in the world"

"To strengthen translational medicine which emphasize the linkage between basic medical researches basic and clinical medical research, Hallym has been working to establish a cooperative relationship with leaders of translational medicine such as the Karolinska Institute and the Uppsala University in Sweden, and the University of Helsinki and the University of Oulu in Finland. As a result, HUMC is going to hold the 1st Hallym-Uppsala International Symposium at Lotte Hotel World on Thursday, October 9, 2008," she also said.
