HUMC Experts Visit Vietnam for QNCGH Project

No.1701 Date2008-07-28 Hit 31801

Hallym University Medical Center(HUMC) dispatched three medical experts to Vietnam from July 14 to 18 for talks with Vietnamese government officials on the establishment of a Central General Hospital in Quang Nam province(QNCGH).

The Korean mission which is led by Dr. Hyun-Chan Cho, director of the PMC included Sang-hoon Lee, manager of the Medical Equipment Team and Ho-youn Youn, manager of the Planning Team. They discussed with the Vietnamese counterparts to confirm the lists of medical equipment. During the discussion, the PMC explained the listings and benefits of medical equipment required by departments according to a plan to open the hospital and a total budget for this project. The Vietnamese side agreed in general.

Dr. Than Trong Long, president of QNCGH, who is exclusively in charge of this project gave a hopeful message that the listed medical equipment will help supply medical experts of QNCGH. He was, however, worried about a belated hospital opening due to a delay in formulating an infrastructure around the construction site.
The Korea International Cooperation Agency(KOICA) officials were also concerned about difficulties in the selection of the construction company brought about by adverse economic conditions of Vietnam such as soaring raw material prices and consumer prices.

The PMC also visited Hue National Hospital, which is a role model of QNCGH, to look around the hospital facilities in Vietnam. Hue National Hospital opened in 1894 as a first western-style hospital in Vietnam, and now has 1,090 official patient beds which is the largest hospital in the central area and the third-largest in Vietnam.
During the visit, the PMC met Dr. Bui Duc Phu, president of the hospital. Dr. Phu explained the history, medical equipment and facilities of the hospital, and promised to help the QNCGH project on training and education which is one of the most important parts of the project.

The project, organized by the KOICA aims at building a general hospital with 500 beds in the Quang Nam Province to meet the needs for medical services in the central area which is the most poorly endowed with medical benefits, and to improve the quality of medical treatments through transferring medical technologies and providing medical equipment.

HUMC, which was designated as a Project Management Consultant(PMC) for transferring medical technologies, training and education, hospital management and consulting on this project, already visited Vietnam on January and May this year for on-site inspections and discussions on the plan of specialized centers.
